Choosing the right gas lift for your office chair is very important. It is crucial for a good sitting posture. Avoid medical complaints such as wrist, neck or back pain and choose the right gas lift thanks to the step-by-step plan below.
1.1 At a fixed table
1.2 At an adjustable (sit-stand) table
Potential obstacles?
Please note that the seat height range of our suppliers' gas lifts is measured at the center of the seat and with a load of +/- 60 kg. Therefore, it is important to measure your seat height in step 2 while sitting on the chair.
Case example:
You measure a seat height of 53 cm and want to buy a HÅG Capisco 8106.
The table indicates following seat height range per gas lift:
Gas lift 150mm: 408 – 540 mm
Gas lift 200mm: 470 – 655 mm
Gas lift 265mm: 555 – 810 mm
You then choose the 200 mm gas lift. This has the greatest variation within the range. With the gas lift of 150 mm you are almost at the maximum range.
Attention: the seat height range may vary slightly from the indicated range for each chair. So keep in mind to choose the gas lift with which you have the most margin. That way you will always make the right choice.
Didn't choose the appropriate gas lift after all?
No problem. If the gas lift is not the right choice, it can be exchanged if it is undamaged. The warranty of the gas lift is 10 years. Ergonomio always has gas lifts from HÅG and RH in stock for quick service. Gas lifts from Interstuhl and Score are available on request.
Step 1: Determining your ideal seat height
Choosing the right gas lift is determined by your (ideal) seat height. The first step is to determine your ideal seating height. For this we make a distinction between a fixed table (not adjustable in height) and an adjustable (sit-stand) table.1.1 At a fixed table

1.1 Determining the seating height at a fixed table
Are you sitting at a fixed table? Then slide your chair to the table and place your arms on your work surface with relaxed shoulders. Forearms parallel to the floor.
Important points to consider for good seating posture:
Important points to consider for good seating posture:
- Your arms are resting smoothly at a minimum 90° angle on your desk or work surface. Shoulders are relaxed, forearms parallel to the floor. The armrests are at the same height as the table.
- Your knees are slightly lower than your pelvis (open hip angle ≥ 100°)
- Your feet are flat on the ground
- You have enough space between the hollow of your knee and the seat of the chair (> 4 fingers)
Your arms are relaxed on the work surface, but you can no longer place your feet flat on the floor?
Your desk is too high. It is best to choose a desk that is height adjustable. Or you can choose a footrest or foot ring.

Your arms are relaxed on the work surface, but upper legs and upper body form an angle less than 90° ?
Your desk is too low. It is best to choose a desk that is height adjustable. Or you can place some blocks under your desk to raise the height.

1.2 Determining the seating height at an adjustable (sit-stand) table
Do you sit at an adjustable sit-stand table? Great! This gives you the opportunity to really adopt the best seating posture.
Sit in the open space on your office chair and make sure your pelvis is higher than your knees. The angle between your legs and back is then ≥ 100°. This is also called the open hip angle. The feet are flat on the floor.
Place your armrests at elbow height. Your shoulders are relaxed and your elbows rest on your armrests. Now bring your work surface to the same height as your armrests. This puts your armrests in line with the worktop. This is also your work surface height.

Measure your seat height while sitting on the chair
Measure your seat height. While sitting on the chair, measure the distance from the ground to the top of the seat. This is your seat height. Write down your seat height.
Step 3: Choose the appropriate gas lift
The height range per chair and gas lift is listed with the minimum and maximum seat heights for each type with each product on our website. Your seat height should fall within the range of the gas lift. Please note that the seat height range of our suppliers' gas lifts is measured at the center of the seat and with a load of +/- 60 kg.
